Malaysia Singapore signs key MOU

Malaysia and Singapore has signed the Memorandum Of Understanding  (MOU) for high speed rail project linking Kuala Lumpur to Singapore. Both goverments have agreed to corporate in making a successful High Speed Rail project.

Bullet train project between both countries is expected to cost as much as 15 billion. Upon completion of the project, it will take 90 minutes to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore at a top speed of 300kmph or more. HSR is also expected to have several stations in Malaysia. Malaysia’s station will start at Bandar Malaysia while Singapore’s station will being at Jurong East. The inking of the project also witnessed by leader of both countries Prime Minister Najib Razak and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at Putrajaya. Prime Minister Najib Razak has also mentioned it will be possible to have breakfast in Kuala Lumpur and lunch in Singapore while making it back to Kuala Lumpur for dinner after the completion of HSR. Among the details of the MOU are agreements of customs, immigration, technical details , safety, regulatory and security matters.  The construction of HSR is also not to be delayed even with economy crisis and political unrest. The cost of HSR will be shared equally by both governments.

The tender award phase is expected to start around August 2016 while the whole project is expected to be completed around 2026. At the moment, China , Japan, South Korea and Europe have shown interest to tender for the project. China is expected to have and edge as for their current investment in Bandar Malaysia and several key assets in Malaysia.
